Pro’s and Con’s of Working at Home

Pro’s and Con’s of Working at Home

I have been working full time as a home based Online  ESL Teacher for  two years and my friends often ask me if it’s high time for them to risk their full time job. I first chose to stay at home for one major reason and that was when I had a very high risk pregnancy. From then on, I have started to stick to my current situation. There are a lot of online jobs that can be found depending on what skills you have and so here are some of the things you might want to think about and weigh before jumping aboard.

PRO’s
1.        Your working time is very flexible. It is up to you to decide what time you can work from Monday to Sunday. In my case I work from 08:00am-12:00noon and start from 06:00pm-11:00pm with breaks in between.

2.        You don’t need to ask your boss if you want to take a leave. This is what I really relish. You won’t feel you are tied up with your job.

3.        You can save your commuting time to having a quality time with your family. After all, your office is just right at your home.

4.        You don’t have to allocate in your budget the transportation and meal expenses if you eat out during your lunchtime. When I was working I used to allocate 90 peso a day for that, if you multiply it to 21 working days that would amount to 1890 pesos, enough to pay your internet bills. J

5.        If you are a person who dislikes wearing a uniform then definitely this job is for you. You can work while wearing your pajama.

6.        In my case, I earn more than my previous job is. I previously worked as a call center agent and as an ESL Teacher. You can earn as much as 10,000- 40,000 pesos depending on what kind of your work and how many hours you work. The hourly salary is from 50php-200 php.

CON’S
1.        Since you work at home, you don’t get the health card benefit of working in a company. As a parent, you might want to really think hard on this. Private visits to the doctor would range from 300php to 450php from my experience.  In my case, I just go to the nearest health center or big public hospitals. I live in the suburbs of Baguio City so I visit the Baguio General Hospital. Other times, I go to private doctor.
2.        You would also need to consider paying your PHILHEALTH, PAGIBIG and SSS voluntarily. Online jobs don’t usually offer benefits.
3.        The last thing I could think of is health related. Well, this depends on the person. In my case, I sit for 8-10 hours in front of the computer and so sometimes I experienced lower back pain and eye soreness.

I hope my blog helped you in hitting the road of doing online job. If you have further queries feel free to post your comment here or visit my other blogs.
